My thanks to Edna Neville for the information she gave me, Sally Mottram for her side of the family, Carol Jones for helping other researchers and Michael Durtnall for his on line transcriptions of the Huntspill parish registers.

The Way Family Tree is proving to be a very difficult Tree to unravel, every time we think we have it sorted, some new information comes to light and turns it all up side down.

George was born about 1768, he married Mary Hemberry at Huntspill on 3rd August 1794. They had 9 children all baptised at Huntspill. James was baptised 7th June 1795, Sarah was baptised 16th July 1797, George was baptised 23rd March 1800, but sadly died.

The Rector of Huntspill George White recorded  the 1801 population census in the parish registers which I found on the GENUKI-SOM site George Way is listed as head of a family of 4 people. There were 5 families in all with the surname of Way.

The next child was also named George and he was baptised 13th December 1801, Richard baptised 1st April 1804, William baptised 23rd February 1806, Elizabeth baptised 23rd March 1808, Charles baptised 11th March 1810 and Frederick baptised 12th January 1812, he married and had a daughter Mary who married Mr. Mears. Elijah baptised 26th September 1813.

I'm not sure now that the above George Way is in fact the father of Richard Way below. The census information is confusing the matter some what. Also there seems to be two Richard Way's. One married Maria which is the one I am researching and the other married Mary.

Richard was the 5th child of George Way and Mary Hemberry, he was baptised at Huntspill on 1st April 1804?.

Richard married Maria and they had a daughter Sarah, who was baptised at Huntspill on 6th January 1832. Mary Ann was baptised 6th January 1837, although her mothers name is recorded as Mary. I don't know how many other children they had. The 1851 census for Huntspill shows Richard aged 50, labourer, born at East Brent, Maria, wife, aged 54, born at Woolavington?, Mary Ann, daughter, aged 14, born at Huntspill, Alfred Way, lodger, aged 39, labourer, born at Burnham.

In 1881 according to the census, Richard was 82 years old, and still working as a Farm Labourer, his wife Maria was 83 years old. Both born at Huntspill. They were living at Carmoor Lane, Huntspill, Somerset.

SARAH WAY 1831 - 1909

Sarah was born 12th December 1831 and was baptised at Hunspill on 6th January 1832.  When she was old enough she went into service, I found her on the 1851 census aged 19 working as a house servant to Elizabeth Durston in Pawlett. 5 years later she married Emmanuel Chedzoy a widower at Stoke St Gregory on 22nd April 1856, witnessed by Edith Way. She lived the rest of her life in Stoke St Gregory raising her 7 children. see Emmanuel Chedzoy. Sarah died age 77 at Windmill, Stoke St Gregory on 2nd November 1909 with her daughter in law Sarah Dorcus Chedzoy present, the death certificate says she was only 75 years old. The family had memorial cards printed with the correct details.
